Alan Kondo is the Founder of Kondo Wealth Advisors, Inc. (KWA), an independent Registered Investment Advisor firm, and professional wealth management practice, located in Los Angeles, California. He is a Certified Financial Planner™ (CFP®) and a Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU®). Alan retired in 2019. In retirement, Alan provides consultation services to Kondo Wealth Advisors and continues to serve the community through financial education and outreach.

Alan contributes to the financial empowerment of the community through writing, educational workshops, and volunteerism. For 20 years, Alan was a financial columnist in the Rafu Shimpo on financial and estate planning topics. He is the author of the book Path to Antei, A Japanese American Guide to Financial Success, a contributing author on Giving: Philanthropy for Everyone, and a co-author of Retiring Upstream: Finding Happiness & Security in the Transition of a Lifetime.

Prior to taking Kondo Wealth Advisors independent in 2011, Alan was a celebrated member of Transamerica for 16 years. Alan received Transamerica’s “Leading Producers” award, “Distinguished Pinnacle Club Growth” award and “Outstanding Advisory Services Achievement” award. Additionally, Kondo Wealth Advisors was Transamerica’s #1 Advisory Firm in 2010. Alan’s decision to go independent as a Registered Investment Advisor was based on his goal to give clients the best services and financial strategies available in the industry. Kondo Wealth Advisors is founded on the principle, “We work for our clients and help them achieve their hopes and dreams.”

Alan received his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Toronto, and a Master of Arts degree from Loyola Marymount University. Originally from Toronto, Canada, he is married to Ruth Wakabayashi, a retired teacher from the Los Angeles Unified School District. They have three daughters, Kimiko, Akemi, and Masayo.

Alan has given his time and talent generously to community organizations such as Keiro, Little Tokyo Service Center, Japanese American Cultural & Community Center, Japanese American National Museum, East San Gabriel Valley Japanese Community Center, San Fernando Valley Japanese American Community Center, Japanese Cultural and Community Center of Northern California, Nikkei for Civil Rights and Redress, Nikkei Progressives and countless others. Alan was the recipient of the 1994 Steven Tatsukawa Memorial Fund Award, given to individuals committed to advancing the Asian Pacific American community. He was also a key creative force in Visual Communications, a voice of Asian American & Pacific Islander filmmakers and media artists.

Alan continues to be a guiding light to the future of Kondo Wealth Advisors. Sharing his vision and values, Alan advocates, “We are only as strong as our community.”
